Drug & Alcohol Recovery Outreach Services

We provide support for anyone at either end of the spectrum and somewhere in between

Do you know anyone who uses drugs and/or alcohol on the streets of Suffolk? Our DAROS is countywide and able to respond flexibly to go to the areas with the highest need.

Funded by Suffolk County Council Public Health, we help service users to access mainstream services, promoting improvement in their overall health and wellbeing as well as helping them to recover from their addictions. Not only do we support people to achieve recovery from problematic substance misuse, but we also tackle the wider complex issues they face, such as rough-sleeping and poor health. We’ve recently extended the service to incorporate a psychiatric liaison service, which helps people to improve their mental and overall health and wellbeing.

We also provide support to anyone who is struggling to manage their alcohol consumption or substance misuse and is at risk of becoming a street drinker or drug user. Our team is skilled at working flexibly and creatively with some of the hardest to reach, vulnerable and isolated individuals.

As with all our services, the DAROS team take a multi-agency approach, working closely with agencies such as housing providers, Police and treatment providers. By doing this, we are able to make sure we can help our service users overcome any barriers to their recovery and ensure we have the fullest picture of their problems. Working intensively and assertively with them, we encourage and promote positive change. As part of the service, we:

  • Build trusting relationships

  • Ensure flexible, person-centred support

  • Work collaboratively and build relationships with other outreach workers

  • Work with other professional organisations in order to fully meet the needs of our service users

  • Assist in joint care planning with other agencies, specifically with Turning Point

  • Support clients to keep appointments, maintain engagement and learn the skills needed to have a better quality of life

  • Make referrals to support clients to appropriate agencies to enable them to achieve stability, better health, and overall wellbeing

  • Help clients to reconnect with their families

  • Ensure they are housed

  • Tackle debts and anti-social behaviour

  • Work closely with our colleagues in our STARS service to source accommodation for those in recovery who need additional support
