A well deserved thank you for a new home
For those that don’t know, in Housing when Service Users get behind with their Service Charge (for utilities essentially), and when we can, we give them the opportunity to work off the debt by doing painting and decorating in our properties. We credit their debt to the value of the hours they work at the rate of National Minimum Wage. This helps them to keep on top of their debts, which assists them when they move on, and ACT benefits at the same time. We also offer the same opportunity for those not in debt, we reimburse them for their time with supermarket vouchers. The Service User said:
“I just wanted to say thank you! For choosing me to have this flat. And for helping me get from the position of being possibly kicked out for service charge arrears, to paying it all off & being in credit for decorating and cleaning a flat that is for me to live in at the end of. I was just sitting here looking around thinking how lucky I am. I have a lovely flat that’s going to be amazing when it’s finished. I don’t have the worry of being in debt with surcharge anymore. I love the furniture I have here. I’m just really happy and I haven’t felt positive like this for a very long time. I know a lot of the time you see me at the moment and I’m stressed, but I can’t wait for you to come here and see the flat when it’s all done and have a cuppa tea and a catch up with each other and I am so happy that you are still my key worker because I trust you Sharon and I can talk to you and it makes things so much more easier. Anyway I just wanted to say thank you for everything and I will see you soon.”
Thank you Sharon – it seems you pitched this support just right and she has gone from rough sleeping, to temporary accommodation all the way to getting her own place – well done.
